I rode and drove by this storefront on 71st Street in Chicago's Grand Crossing neighborhood for years, noticing the worn beauty of its façade and its insistent message of Black beauty. On a visit back to Chicago in 2015, I stood outside asking passersby if I could take their photos in front of this spot. These are some of the people who said yes.
